Education

Gram Unnayan Sangstha (GUS) is committed to expanding access to inclusive and equitable education for marginalized populations across Bangladesh. By focusing on non-formal education, adult literacy, and adolescent development, GUS works to ensure that individuals excluded from the formal education system gain essential knowledge, skills, and opportunities for personal and socio-economic advancement. Across its Education-focused interventions, a total of 1,600 beneficiaries have been supported.

GUS has implemented targeted non-formal education programs for vulnerable children under its neo-literacy project, providing continuous support until the age of 18, as well as for adolescents aged 11–14 who are excluded from or have dropped out of formal schooling. These initiatives focus on providing foundational literacy, numeracy, and life skills, enabling marginalized youth to regain access to learning opportunities. By equipping adolescents with essential educational competencies, GUS supports their personal development and enhances their future livelihood prospects, helping them reintegrate into society as informed and capable individuals.

Recognizing that education is not limited by age, GUS has promoted adult literacy programs for underserved populations aged 15-35 years old with little or no formal education. These programs provide basic reading, writing, and numeracy skills alongside practical life skills. Through these interventions, adult learners gain the ability to manage daily tasks more effectively, income generation, access information, and participate actively in economic and community activities. This contributes to increased self-confidence, awareness, and social inclusion alongside contributing to income generation.

GUS places special emphasis on empowering adolescent girls, particularly in urban settings where they face heightened risks of school dropout and limited opportunities. Education programs for girls integrate academic support with life skills and basic livelihood training. These initiatives help improve educational participation, build confidence, and prepare girls for future economic engagement, thereby contributing to gender equality and long-term community development.
