About us

Gram Unnayan Sangstha is a non-profit, non-political voluntary development organization that has been working as a local NGO in Bangladesh since 1986. It was established by a group of dedicated social workers, development professionals, educationists, and philanthropists to improve the socio-economic conditions of disadvantaged communities.

The organization implements a wide range of programs, including community awareness, income-generating activities (IGA), education and training, environmental awareness, disability support, health and nutrition, family planning, agro-based development, and women and child rights. It is committed to empowering destitute people through self-employment opportunities, enabling them to contribute to the country’s economic development.

Given Bangladesh’s vulnerability to natural and man-made disasters, many people continue to fall into extreme poverty each year. Gram Unnayan Sangstha addresses these challenges by improving the livelihoods and social security of marginalized communities through targeted interventions. The organization works to bring disadvantaged groups into the mainstream by providing training, education, and knowledge-sharing opportunities for sustainable income generation.

To implement its programs, Gram Unnayan Sangstha mobilizes resources from members, community contributions, local donations, and other sources. It also collaborates closely with key stakeholders, including Concern Worldwide, BRAC, the Government of Bangladesh (Primary and Mass Education Division), USC Canada-Bangladesh, Oxfam, ILO, and the Department of Women Affairs.
